Can Sofia Vergara or Betty White dethrone Julie Bowen?
Allison Williams of 'Girls'
Allison Williams, "Girls"
Nomination Status: Only if momentum snowballs for "Girls"
In Her Favor: Somewhat disappointingly, many "Girls" haters continue to confuse the fact that they dislike Marnie with a performance that's designed to give you a wide berth to dislike the character being played. To me, Marnie is exactly as hard to love as Lena Dunham and Allison Williams want her to be and Season 2 made it plenty hard to love Marnie, who went into a spiral of self-delusion that included highlights like her relationship with Jorma Tacone's ultra-pretentious Booth and then her desperate attempts to throw herself back into Charlie's life. Williams and Marnie were much funnier in the second season, particularly her interactions with Booth's "Barely Breathing" art installation, as well as unfortunate night with Andrew Rannells' Elijah. And her cover of "Stronger" was terrific.
Working Against Her: "Blah blah "Girls" sucks. Blah blah nepotism. Blah blah blah." Sorry. I'm not especially tolerant.
