Michael Cudlitz of 'Southland'
Michael Cudlitz, "Southland"
Nomination Status: An apparently worthy longshot
In His Favor: Everybody who watched "Southland" has spent this year raving about Michael Cudlitz's performance on the TNT police drama. RAVING. In general, the buzz on Cudlitz's work on "Southland" has only built over the years. And, like Noah Emmerich, Cudlitz is one of those guys who has seemingly popped up everywhere over the years and you only hear good things about him. That's the sort of combination that could plausibly lead to a series-capping win that would make lots of people very pleased.
Working Against Him: As y'all know, I didn't watch "Southland" regularly and, sadly, neither did most people as TNT recently cancelled the show. Perhaps more people would have watched if awards voters had ever noticed the series. Perhaps. "Southland" flew under the radar for too long and even if there's a tiny groundswell on Cudlitz's behalf, it'll probably be too little, too late. However, I never rule out a nomination when anybody has a fanbase that's as enraptured as the Cudlitz/"Southland" supporters. Passion can go a long way.
