Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama
Last Year's Nominees:
Peter Dinklage, "Game of Thrones"
Brendan Coyle, "Downton Abbey"
Jim Carter, "Downton Abbey"
Aaron Paul, "Breaking Bad"
Giancarlo Esposito, "Breaking Bad"
Jared Harris, "Mad Men"
Attrition: Jared Harris and Giancarlo Esposito enjoyed their final seasons of eligibility last year, so that's two empty spots. And Brendan Coyle wasn't submitted at all this year, perhaps reflecting on the less-than-hugely-eventful season for Master Bates. While I can think of things Jim Carter did in a couple episodes, I'd hardly think he's a sure thing to return. That means that other than Paul and Dinklage, winner of the past three Emmys in this category, there could be ample room for fresh faces. That's always exciting.
