Rainn Wilson of 'The Office'
Rainn Wilson, "The Office"
Nomination Status: This would be a good place to honor "The Office" in its final season.
In His Favor: Rainn Wilson has three Emmy nominations for his work as Dwight Schrute on "The Office," but he did his best work in the latter half of the show's final season. Leave aside "The Farm" and the ill-fated attempt at a Dwight spinoff that nobody wanted. Instead, concentrate on the character's more sentimental side in the penultimate episode and the finale, as Dwight finally got everything he wanted in both his personal life (Angela) and professional life (regional manager). While failure occasionally made Dwight insufferable, success actually made the character funnier and more appealing. I've said this before, but the most effective moment of the finale for was Dwight talking about all that he got from Dunder Mifflin, ending with calling Pam his best friend. Take that moment, plus his wedding and his reaction to reuniting with Michael? Rainn Wilson was just damn good.
Working Against Him: Dwight Fatigue set in a while ago and Wilson hasn't been Emmy nominated since 2009. I'm going out on a limb to predict that he's going to return to the field this year and it may be a thin limb.
