Ike Barinholtz or 'The Mindy Project'
Ike Barinholtz, "The Mindy Project"
Nomination Status: How many "Mindy Project" fans are in the TV Academy? I'd guess "some" but also "not enough."
In His Favor: Ike Barinholtz's increasingly high profile on "The Mindy Project," both as recently incarcerated nurse Morgan and as a staff writer, coincided well with the show's still-ongoing transition from "wildly uneven comedy with a world of potential" to "increasing consistent, but still somewhat uneven comedy still with a world of potential." It still doesn't always seem like Morgan exists in the same world as the other "Mindy Project" characters do, but whatever world he's coming from is a funny one and Barinholtz has worked hard to make sure that Morgan is more than just a deranged assemblage of non-sequitors. There's this dark, emotional core to Morgan, this need to be loved that steers the character and makes him human.
Working Against Him: The Men of "The Mindy Project" are all in the same category. It's doubtful that Ed Weeks is going to have much Emmy support, but I can imagine Chris Messina having a few supporters. Given what's likely to only be a small pool of votes, that'll guarantee neither "Mindy" man has a chance.
