Adam Driver of 'Girls'
Adam Driver, "Girls"
Nomination Status: Lack of nomination last year probably lowers his chances this year.
In His Favor: It should have built sooner, but there's a slow momentum building around Adam Driver's emotionally and physically exposed performance on "Girls." As great as he was in the first season, he was every bit as good in Season 2. I think that "Boys," in which he shared a great arc with Alex Karpovsky's Ray, "On All Fours," in his performance was upstaged by the episode's climax, and the finale all should be enough to put Driver in the field. If "Girls" is going to be a big Emmy player, Driver deserves to be nominated.
Working Against Him: Driver's "Girls" character causes identification problems for viewers who aren't sure if they're supposed to like him or hate him or fear him and, as a result, the performance behind the character has been somewhat obscured. To me, that's ludicrous. The reason why Adam producers such conflicted responses is because Driver is outstanding. But I think Emmy voters are unlikely to go out on this sort of limb.
