Katheryn Winnick of 'Vikings'
Katheryn Winnick, "Vikings"
Nomination Status: One of the strongest new female performances of the year, but virtually no shot at recognition.
In Her Favor: As "Vikings" shield maiden Lagertha, Katheryn Winnick gets to do a little bit of everything. She's strong, she's smart, she's sexy. She's modern, but also seemingly of-her-time. She's prayed for her husband, grieved for loved ones and she's wielded weapons in battle. So far, the writers haven't cheapened or crippled her character and that's why Lagertha has emerged as a fan favorite.
Working Against Her: "Vikings" was a solid success for History and many critics came away surprisingly respectful of what Michael Hirst and his cast and crew accomplished. But in a season with so many strong new female performances, performances that come with dedicated and vocal fanbases. "Vikings" has fans, but I don't think they're going to be loud enough to make this close to a possibility.
