Connie Britton of 'Nashville'
Connie Britton, "Nashville"
Nomination Status: Emmy favorite has an Emmy friendly role and I think she makes the field.
In Her Favor: After all of those years of being snubbed for "Friday Night Lights," it's nice to call Connie Britton an "Emmy favorite," but that's what she is. With nods for the last two "FNL" seasons as well as for "American Horror Story," Britton has nominations the past three years and I think that her performance in "Nashville," which features major dramatic acting as well as very pleasant singing, ought to position her to make it four straight. The Golden Globe nomination probably isn't a big boost -- several of the major actress-driven cable dramas hadn't premiered yet -- but it sure doesn't hurt.
Working Against Her: Emmy voters have been trained to prioritize cable shows in the drama categories for the past decade and it's almost like the networks have forgotten how to get nominations for their drama stars. In a world without new cable shows, Britton would coast to a nomination, but FX and BBC America and Netflix and A&E are going to have their say.
