AnnaSophia Robb of 'The Carrie Diaries'
AnnaSophia Robb, "The Carrrie Diaries"
Nomination Status: Emmy voters love Carrie Bradshaw, but probably not in this incarnation.
In Her Favor: Sarah Jessica Parker used to be an Emmy favorite in this role, so it seems like the least I can do to mention the new Carrie Bradshaw. I also think it's notable to periodically salute the rare hour-long show with the guts to submit itself as a comedy, something both "Carrie Diaries" and "Hart of Dixie" did. More shows should have the guts to go where their tone takes them, rather than being steered by institutionalized rules regarding time and category placement. Plus, I think there's a sweetness to what AnnaSophia Robb is doing in "The Carrie Diaries" that has made me like the show much more than I ever liked "Sex and the City."
Working Against Her: Nobody watched "The Carrie Diaries." Nobody at all. And whatever Robb's performance is, it's not especially funny. I gave Rachel Bilson her own slide last year and I'd say that her performance in "Hart of Dixie" is much funnier than Robb's performance, if that's the sort of thing that anybody voting actually cares about, I mean.
