Michael C. Hall of 'Dexter'
Michael C. Hall, "Dexter"
Nomination Status: Five straight nominations, plus the "Dexter" creative renaissance should keep Hall safe.
In His Favor: If Michael C. Hall could pick up his fifth straight nomination last year, for what was undoubtedly his worst work on "Dexter," it's hard to know why he wouldn't earn a sixth straight nod for a season in which he and the series had an impressive and unexpected comeback. Acting opposite both Jennifer Carpenter and deserving Guest Actor nominee Ray Stevenson, Hall had his best foils since the Lithgow season and his performance rose to meet the level of his scene partners. The result was a Dexter who was less confident, but no less lethal, letting Hall show new shadings for the first time in a while.
Working Against Him: There was some backlash to the Emmy complacency in nominating Hall last year and there has to be at least some concern stemming from Hall dropping out of the SAG Awards field earlier this year. Of course, SAG only nominates five actors, so that snub has only limited meaning here.
