Clarke Peters of 'Treme'
Clarke Peters, "Treme"
Nomination Status: Tre-maybe not.
In His Favor: It was a great season for "Treme" last year and Clarke Peters' Albert Lambreaux had a fantastic arc that included cancer, but was never played for schlocky manipulation. Peters is too good and too subtle an actor to make the story of broad choices that might have generated Emmy consideration. After all, Albert's stubbornness is the defining trait of his character. Why should that change now? Mostly it didn't, but Peters allowed just enough weakness to seep to the surface to generate well-earned sympathy and concern from viewers.
Working Against Him: Peters is no more a Lead Actor than Hugh Bonneville, but he and Wendell Pierce, also excellent last season, are both submitted in a category they have no hope of cracking. They probably had no hope of cracking the Supporting field either, unfortunately. Like "The Wire," "Treme" is another impeccably cast David Simon show in which none of the actors will ever get Emmy nominations. Feh.
