Jonny Lee Miller of 'Elementary'
Jonny Lee Miller, "Elementary"
Nomination Status: Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for his Sherlock Holmes performance last year. What if I told you that Jonny Lee Miller is every bit as good?
In His Favor: You'd probably mock me. Or accuse me of sacrilege. I'm not saying "Elementary" is better than "Sherlock." It's not. I'm not saying that Miller is better than Cumberbatch, though I wouldn't scoff at anybody who wanted to make that argument. All I'm saying is that Jonny Lee Miller is giving an edgy, smart, different performance as Sherlock Holmes and that too many people who are even snobbier than I am turned their nose up at "Elementary" without watching a single second. I'd recommend you watch the two-hour finale, which should earn Natalie Dormer some Emmy consideration as well.
Working Against Him: Sadly, as big a Jonny Lee Miller fan as I am, even I'm not going to tell you that he'd be in my Top 6. And that's how you get Emmy nominations. In a field this deep, it's just really hard to be simply "very, very good."
