Andrew Lincoln of 'The Walking Dead'
Andrew Lincoln, "The Walking Dead"
Nomination Status: Lots of showy moments on one of TV's most talked-about shows, but it still won't be enough.
In His Favor: Let's just say that Rick Grimes had a really tough season. He was already going just a bit nutty when somebody very close to him met with a less-than-fortunate end. And he took it poorly. As you do. And even if I felt at the time -- and still do -- that Andrew Lincoln's version of grief looked an awful lot like Brad Pitt's performance at the end of "Seven," it was hard not to admire the full extent of his commitment to weary misery. I've had quibbles with Lincoln's performance in the past, particularly his decidedly wonky accent work, but you won't hear any criticism from me about his Emmy-eligible work from the past year.
Working Against Him: Emmy voters decided early on that "The Walking Dead" fell into the "Technologically impressive, but not substantive" category. It's very hard to buck that entrenched perception once it sets in.
