Peter Capaldi of 'The Thick of It'
Peter Capaldi, "The Thick of It"
Nomination Status: You had no idea he was even eligible.
In His Favor: Did you know Peter Capaldi was an Oscar winner? Yup. For the 1995 short film "Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life." Now you know. And did you know that because Hulu aired the most recent season of "The Thick of It," Capaldi is also eligible for an Emmy? Now you do. Capaldi has won every imaginable British TV award for his magnificently profane and indelible performance as Malcolm Tucker. If you've seen "The Thick of It" or "In the Loop," you know that Tucker is one of the great comedic creations of the past decade at the very least and while Armando Iannucci deserves as much credit for that as you want to give him, Capaldi helps spin his obscenities into gold.
Working Against Him: Hulu barely promoted the existence of new episodes of "The Thick of It" and I wouldn't expect any sort of Emmy push from their end. When it comes to digital distribution this year, it's all about "House of Cards" and "Arrested Development" and Netflix. Capaldi is better than anybody on "Arrested Development" in this current incarnation, but... No shot.
