Johnny Galecki of 'The Big Bang Theory'
Johnny Galecki, "The Big Bang Theory"
Nomination Status: That one nomination means there's always cause for hope.
In His Favor: Two years ago, for no reason I've ever been able to understand, Johnny Galecki picked up an Emmy nomination. Galecki is never actually bad on "The Big Bang Theory," but he's pretty much the straight-man, occasionally getting laughs at random nerdity, but always leaving the majority of the wackiness to his co-stars. There's a skill to that, but it's not a skill Emmy voters are prone to recognizing. As "The Big Bang Theory" maintains its position as TV's most watched comedy and is also a syndication powerhouse, there's always the possibility that additional and prolonged exposure could bring Galecki into the Emmy fold again.
Working Against Him: Jim Parsons is a nomination lock, as always, and the writers gave Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar Emmy-friendly arcs this season. Under what circumstance is anybody going to notice Galecki?
