Emmy Nomination Preview 2012 - Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama

With Margo Martindale gone, will this be Christina Hendricks' year?

Anjelica Huston of 'Smash'

Anjelica Huston, "Smash"

Nomination Status: This is an absurdly hard slot to predict. Going with the Oscar winner and Emmy favorite is the easy thing to do.

In Her Favor: In addition to her Oscar win for "Prizzi's Honor" (and two additional nominations), Huston has six Emmy nominations and she's part of a show that arrived with an avalanche of hype and may be received very well by the actor-heavy TV Academy. This just makes too much sense.

Working Against Her: She doesn't deserve this nomination by any stretch of the imagination. Huston's "Smash" character was underwritten and prone to doing stupid things and was saddled for most of the season with an entirely uninteresting romantic attachment. I could list 20 or 30 actresses who deserve this nomination more. That doesn't mean they're better actresses than Anjelica Huston. It just means they have better roles and play them better at this exact moment.
