Two 'Modern Family' frontrunners return, but will older actresses crash the field?
Eliza Coupe of 'Happy Endings'
Eliza Coupe, "Happy Endings"
Nomination Status: Being my pick as the most Emmy-worthy of the "Happy Endings" ladies does not an Emmy make.
In Her Favor: Elisha Cuthbert was the big surprise of the "Happy Endings" cast. Casey Wilson gets the funny catchphrases and the physical comedy. And in some years, I'd happily swap either of them into the main gallery and move Coupe to "Other notable candidates." Really, they're all terrific. But as she proved in her brief "Scrubs" tenure and proves every week on "Happy Endings," when it comes to razor-sharp, sarcastic comedic talent, Eliza Coupe is peerless and she and Damon Wayans Jr. have had, really from the very beginning, fabulous chemistry. For a dose of Coupe at her finest, I'd reommend "You Snooze, You Bruise" with Jane flexing her power as president of her building's homeowners' association.
Working Against Her: This is a preference pick. Casey Wilson is probably the "Happy Endings" actress most likely to earn a nomination. And that's not going to happen either.
