Two 'Modern Family' frontrunners return, but will older actresses crash the field?
Julie Bowen of 'Modern Family'
Julie Bowen, "Modern Family"
Nomination Status: Defending champ is a lock to return.
In Her Favor: Bowen has a pair of Emmy nominations for "Modern Family," including a win last year. She also was nominated for a SAG individual achievement award this year. She's set-and-solid with the Emmy-voting core and there's no reason at all to expect her to drop out, especially if you happen to be a big fan of dentistry-driven hilarity, since Bowen's big episode is likely to be the one that involved Claire's tooth-based misadventures while running for municipal office. She also fired a gun and kissed Greg Kinnear. What more could Emmy voters want?
Working Against Her: Nothing, really. The infusion of fresh talent in this category won't impact either of the "Modern Family" shoo-ins.
