Jeremy Piven of 'Entourage'
Jeremy Piven, "Entourage"
Nomination Status: One last hurrah for a three-time winner? Then again, admit it, you kinda forgot that Jeremy Piven and "Entourage" ever existed.
In His Favor: Leaving aside one's feelings for Piven or for "Entourage," the final season of the HBO comedy really did concentrate heavily on the emotional journey of Ari Gold and, for the first time in five or six years, offered Piven different notes to play. And he did a fine job, if you're able to put aside long-standing Piven-fatigue. Once upon a time, "Entourage" was an Emmy favorite and if voters choose to have some nostalgia, there's really only one person who might warrant a nostalgia-driven nomination. At least we know he exists on the Emmy radar. Or existed.
Working Against Him: It's hard to believe, but it's been three straight years without a nomination for an actor whose Emmy inevitability used to be something of a running joke. You also have to go back a couple years to find a time "Entourage" was a meaningful Emmy player.
