Rob McElhenney of 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia'
Rob McElhenney, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
Nomination Status: If ever there were a chance for somebody on "It's Always Sunny" to break through with a nomination, this is it.
In His Favor: Oscar voters love it when actors gain huge amounts of weight for their art and Rob McElhenney put on 50-ish pounds to transform himself into Fat Mac. Yes, it was a weirdly random stunt, but it played heavily into one of the funniest "Sunny" seasons to date. Fat Mac was hilarious and it was McElhenney's lack of ego in playing a character who still inexplicably maintained *his* ego that made the character hilarious. [I swear that made sense in my head.] I'm still not sure why McElhenney felt the need to do this thing to himself, but kudos. Seriously. Look at that picture. REWARD THIS MAN.
Working Against Him: Emmy voters don't know that "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" exists. At all. And if they do, they'd probably nominate Charlie Day, with his burgeoning movie stardom. That would be fine also. Day is always worthy. But for this season? It's gotta be Fat Mac. But it won't be.
