Emmy Nomination Preview 2012 - Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Who will join the 'Modern Family' men in the Top 6?
Jason Gann of 'Wilfred'
Jason Gann, "Wilfred"
Nomination Status: A showy supporting performance on a buzz-worthy new series probably deserves consideration.
In His Favor: As writer and co-creator on FX's "Wilfred," Gann wears many hats. He also wears one suit, a very funny dog suit. But gimmickry aside, Gann's performance is more than just "Guy in dog suit." He's loopy, audacious and if he's nominated, he'll hump the legs of every Emmy voter. He's that eager to please. There's also the off-chance that Emmy recognition for "Louie" means that Emmy voters have become aware that FX produces some very fine comedies.
Working Against Him: It's far more likely that Emmy recognition for "Louie" is just Emmy recognition for "Louie" and "Louis C.K." And as much as I like "Wilfred," it's no "Louie," nor does it really aspire to be. Are Emmy voters, who check off names like "Betty White" and "Cloris Leachman" on muscle reflex, ready to nominate a virtually unknown Australian in a dog suit?
