Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Last Year's Nominees:
Ty Burrell, "Modern Family"
Chris Colfer, "Glee"
Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men"
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, "Modern Family"
Ed O'Neill, "Modern Family"
Eric Stonestreet, "Modern Family"
Attrition: After six nominations and a win in the supporting field, Jon Cryer has submitted himself as Lead Actor, which should open up space for another "Modern Family" actor to squeeze into the field. Is this Nolan Gould's year? That was a wee joke, but there's almost no reason to think Emmy voters are going to change gears in this category and open things up to any sort of out-of-left-field nominees. The five returning nominees aren't locks, but this was a year for the women in new comedies, so there aren't that many supporting actors ready to break down the door here.
Click through for my unscientific predictions. The first six slides are my predicted nominees. From there, the slides are at least somewhat in order of likelihood to earn a nomination until the last handful, which are dark horses and personal preferences.
