Jeff - He went in and out and in and out of my Top 20 so many times that I left him both places. Not intentionally, probably. His second mention is now gone... Thanks!
It's a shame that Danny McBride won't ever be recognized for Eastbound and Down. And even if Angry Boys wasn't somebody's cup of tea comedy wise, I feel like it'd still be easy to see that Lilley more than earned a nomination. Of course, I'm sure many aren't even aware it exists and HBO has other shows to promote.
Also, can we please start giving some awards to Larry David, or at least the show in general? What does it have - 1 win in all this time? Absurd.
But in any case, here are my top 6:
Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm Chris Lilley, Angry Boys Louis C.K., Louie Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock Danny McBride, Eastbound and Down Elijah Wood, Wilfred
Unlike Best Actress, there's not a ton to get excited over in this category. With minimal enthusiasm I want Larry David to win, and Dillahunt and Scott to be nominated.
I stopped watching The Office a few years ago, but I expected Ed Helms to be higher on your list, purely based on the recognition factor: a couple of starring movie roles, and some buzz over his expanded role on a show that gets ratings most of these shows would love.
Could you clarify what you mean by House Of Lies/Cheadle being more of a "Golden Globes thing"? Is it just a matter of lesser quality, or something else?
"Plus, [Adam] Scott is going head-to-head with Rob Lowe in this category, which may split what support there is."
What a depressing thought. I don't know if it is ego or delusion (or a combination of both) that makes Lowe believe he is a lead on Parks and Recreation. Whatever the case, if Scott doesn't get a nomination, I will (rightly or wrongly) blame Lowe.
I think Joel McHale did his best comedic work this season. In the first two seasons he was mostly the straight man, with occasional bouts of overblown indignation. This year though, he really got to be funny, in episodes like the Biology 101 (picture), the Foosball episode, and his attractive Hulk. Reminds me of when Jason Bateman got to be crazy on Arrested Development.
Speaking of AD - I really liked Will Arnett on Up All Night. It's a departure from his usual schtick, and it was well done.
Speaking of AD and Will Arnett...Rob Lowe as lead? COME ON!!
I really wish Zachary Levi had a shot. Really, really wish.
I am shocked you recognise Lilley here Dan. Angry Boys was mostly panned here (Australia) after his last two efforts (Summer Heights High and We Can Be Heroes) were wildly praised and were terrific. I am surprised you were high on this, or his performance at least Dan.
Every time Community and its cast are snubbed, I lose more and more faith in the Emmy system. And more than that, I find it impossible to get excited about something as utterly predictable as the Emmy's. I can't see a universe in which an actor like Johnny Galecki gets a nod before Joel McHale. It just does not compute.
