Can anybody break the Jim Parsons/Alec Baldwin logjam in this category?

Garret Dillahunt of 'Raising Hope'
Garret Dillahunt, "Raising Hope"
Nomination Status: Martha Plimpton's nomination last year helps Dillahunt's cause a little.
In His Favor: Dillahunt has been one of Hollywood's most valuable character actors for over a decade, moving flexibly between comedy and drama. "Raising Hope" is now the role that he's been associated with the longest and his ability to play smartly dumb and to abandon all ego at the door remains underrated. He's also sharing most of his scenes with Emmy nominees Cloris Leachman and Martha Plimpton, which guarantees him some notice.
Working Against Him: It's a supporting performance. I could buy Plimpton submitting as lead last year because at least she was primarily the lead actress on the show (Shannon Woodward could argue this season). Dillahunt gets less screentime and less story time than Lucas Neff, no matter how spectacularly funny he is. "Raising Hope" also continues not to be a hit, so as good as the second season was, there's no reason to believe it's got the momentum to add nominations this year.
