Emmy Nomination Preview 2011 - Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama
Archie Panjabi returns, but who will join her in the field?
Sara Ramirez of 'Grey's Anatomy'
Sara Ramirez, "Grey's Anatomy"
Nomination Status: My guess? One "Grey's Anatomy" actress sneaks back in. Sandra Oh is most likely, but Ramirez is a close second.
In Her Favor: Did you see "Song Beneath the Song"? The musical episode was insanely uneven in that "Grey's Anatomy" way, but it's possible that no actress in this category has a single episode as spectacularly showy as what Shonda Rhimes gave her Tony-winning star with this one. Ramirez sings well and Ramirez cries well and in "Song Beneath the Song," she sings and cries for nearly 44 minutes straight. It's a strong enough single episode that if Ramirez makes the cut for a nomination, she may instantly become the favorite to win.
Working Against Her: Getting the nomination will be the tough part. Emmy voters are creatures of habit and they're habitually prone to writing "Sandra Oh" or "Chandra Wilson" in this category.
