Garret Dillahunt of 'Raising Hope'
Garret Dillahunt, "Raising Hope"
Nomination Status: One of the few actors from a new show with any chance to crack this field.
In His Favor: Although he'd done plenty of comedy in the past, Dillahunt was generally considered a dramatic actor (albeit one with quirky tendencies) before the premiere of "Raising Hope." Now, Dillahunt has a new crop of fans for his gung-ho, ego-free performance on one of the few network comedies to premiere last year and get invited back for a second season. Emmy voters ought to appreciate the high level of difficulty that Dillahunt has faced doing much of his acting opposite a baby and Cloris Leachman. Dillahunt also gets a boost from his appearances in Oscar-saluted films like "No Country For Old Men" and "Winter's Bone."
Working Against Him: Although it had many fans and ample critical support, "Raising Hope" isn't really a hit and it's a bit of an acquired taste. And, as has been mentioned a couple times now, this is a tough category.
