Emmy Nomination Preview 2011 - Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy
Eric Stonestreet leads a category in which all six 2010 nominees return
Mike O'Malley of 'Glee'
Mike O'Malley, "Glee"
Nomination Status: Nominated as a Guest Actor last season, he could make the leap.
In His Favor: O'Malley was a welcome and worthy nominee last year as Guest Actor in a Comedy series and the "Yes Dear" star had a couple major episodes this season that could put him in the hunt in the Supporting category this year. Heart attacks, weddings and protecting your son are award-kibble.
Working Against Him: Why is he in this category now? I guess Burt Hummel may have had a couple more episodes this season, but he was hardly a regular piece of the "Glee" ensemble, no matter how his contract reads. Also, even moreso than Colfer, O'Malley's pretty much a dramatic character on "Glee." It seems hard and wrong to compare him to the other people in this category. Oh well. Silly Emmys and their category distinctions.
