Ed O'Neill of 'Modern Family'
Ed O'Neill, "Modern Family"
Nomination Status: Somehow feels likely to swap places with Jesse Tyler Ferguson this year. I can't explain why.
In His Favor: On the eve of Emmy nominations last year, O'Neill was considered the "Modern Family" actor most likely to get singled out. Instead, he ended up being the major co-star left out of the category. There was minor uproar. A correction seems like a distinct possibility, especially in light of his SAG Award nomination in the spring. O'Neill also had several very find showcase episodes this season, as a number of episodes seemed to revolve around milestones in his character's life.
Working Against Him: Only the lack of nomination last year and the depth of competition in this category. Jesse Tyler Ferguson isn't getting a gallery photo here only because I don't want the whole gallery to be "Modern Family," but it wouldn't be at all surprising for Ferguson to remain in the field.
