Katey Sagal of 'Sons of Anarchy'
Katey Sagal, "Sons of Anarchy"
Nomination Status: Emmy voters may be close to realizing what fans have known for three "SoA" seasons: Katey Sagal is a damn good.
In Her Favor: Want a sense of how topsy-turvy this category is? Since Sedgwick won the Emmy last year, Sagal won the Golden Globe and Margulies won the SAG Award. That's a lot of split indicators, right? Well, Sagal had another excellent season as Gemma on "Sons." The arc with Hal Holbrook as her character's father may have a poorly integrated detour in terms of storytelling, but it meant that Sagal continues to be worthy of whatever awards she might be eligible.
Working Against Her: As good as Sagal was this season, she was far better last season, when she would have been a very deserving winner, had Emmy voters decided to acknowledge her. "Sons of Anarchy" remains a brutal, hard-edged show and we'll see if it's found new fans in the Academy.
