With three-time winner Bryan Cranston out, the field is wide open
Michael C. Hall of 'Dexter'
Michael C. Hall, "Dexter"
Nomination Status: Sure to be nominated. Is this his year to win?
In His Favor: Despite three straight nominations for "Dexter," Hall has yet to win his first Emmy. With a Golden Globe and SAG Award win in tow (along with the sympathetic story of his triumph over cancer), last year was supposed to be Hall's year. Instead, Cranston won. Again. Hall probably has a less impressive assortment of showcase episodes from Season 5 than he did from the Lithgow-heavy fourth season, but he definitely has the requisite chilling, conflicted, intriguing episodes. Probably some of the late-season episodes with Dexter showing his softer side with Julia Stiles could work in his favor, since voters won't be able to help but compare this season to his previous work.
Working Against Him: For a nomination? Nothing.
