Emmy Nomination Preview 2010 - Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy

With Kristin Chenoweth gone, will 'Glee' or 'Modern Family' stars step up?

Jane Lynch of 'Glee'

Jane Lynch, "Glee"

Nomination Status: The presumptive, untested frontrunner

In Her Favor: Since "Glee" premiered last May, Jane Lynch has dominated nearly every conversation about the show, for her work as acid-tongued cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester. Whether she submits a purely comedic episode or one of the half-dozen episodes where we were *shocked* to discover Sue's heart-of-gold, Lynch has showed every color voters could possibly want. In what is likely the softest of the eight series acting categories -- lacking last year's winner Kristin Chenoweth, plus departed "SNL" regular Amy Poehler -- Lynch has become the favorite in no time. She's a beloved figure in the industry and this is seen as career-capping work.

Working Against Her: Thus far, other than a "Satellite Award," Lynch hasn't actually won anything for "Glee." She lost the Golden Globe to Chloe Sevigny, wasn't nominated for a SAG Award and remains up for a TCA Award. But she hasn't *won* anything. That doesn't mean she won't. Clearly she's got a number of laurels ahead of her. But for now, she's just a nomination lock.

    My predictions:

    Jane Lynch [Glee]
    Sofia Vergara [Modern Family]
    Vanessa Williams [Ugly Betty]
    Kristen Wiig [SNL]
    Elizabeth Perkins [Weeds]

    Jane Lynch
    Vanessa Williams
    Kristen Wiig
    Julie Bowen
    AND
    Sofia Vergara

Modern Family is going to be scoring double nominations in each supporting actor category. I think Vergara will take it due to Glee's 2nd half drop off and the apparent collective love for Modern Family.

I do wish that Alyson Hannigan would get a shot, she's hilarious on HIMYM.

Dan said: "Cougar Town" has exactly one shot at a nomination, that being star Courteney Cox-Arquette.

You're right, and it's a damn shame, too, because Cox-Arquette is the least funny person on that show.

As awsome as Jane Lynch is, she was WAY funnier in Party Down than the beyond-overrated Glee allows her to be!

Why the ugly comments about Vanessa Williams' performance this year on "Ugly Betty"? Williams was consistently funny, manipulative and devious on the show. The entire season was a culmination of good work by this supreme talent. It would've been nice if you guys at HItFix would have recognized that.

Don't they have the male announce read the female nominees and vice versa so that someone doesn't read their own name?
