Danny Pudi of 'Community'
Danny Pudi, "Community"
Nomination Status: If Danny Pudi and Donald Glover could somehow be fused together as one Emmy Super Candidate, they would make the Top Six on this list. Alas, they do not.
In His Favor: We can't begin to explain why we chose Pudi for a picture in this gallery, while Glover is just "also notable." They're both tremendous and they're at their most tremendous when they're together. Actually, we *can* explain: Pudi (or his character) is the justification for the show's pop culture referentialism and the funniest part of those referential subplots. Without his character? No "Goodfellas" episode, no paintball episode, etc. That doesn't mean that Donald Glover doing modern dance (or a dozen other things) weren't also Emmy worthy. But choices must be made!
Working Against Him: Having a codependent relationship with another character may be good for comedy, but it's not good for award recognition. Just as Eric Stonestreet may be too closely linked with Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Pudi is probably too linked to Glover for voters to be willing to separate them.
