Emmy Nomination Preview 2010 - Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy

Jon Cryer returns, but a host of 'Modern Family' men will look to take him down

Ted Danson of 'Bored to Death'

Ted Danson, "Bored to Death"

Nomination Status: No actor with this much hardware (and this hilarious) can be counted out, especially not if HBO puts a little weight behind him.

In His Favor: Ted Danson has 14 Emmy nominations and two wins. He's also pretty fantastic in his supporting role on HBO's charming and laconic "Bored to Death," just as he's been in his time on FX's "Damages." In fact putting "Bored to Death's" George Christopher next to "Damage's" Arthur Frobisher only makes this new performance look funnier. In a perfect world, the literarily motivated pugilism in the "Bored to Death" finale would have Danson, Zach Galifianakis and Jason Schwartzman all in the Emmy hunt. Instead, we favor Danson for the same reason we gave extra bumps to Ed O'Neill and Chevy Chase: Emmy lives veterans and there's nothing wrong with that.

Working Against Him: The low-key wit of "Bored to Death" isn't for everybody.
