Glenn Close of 'Damages'
Glenn Close, "Damages"
Nomination Status: Two straight wins for this role, expect a third nomination at the very least.
In Her Favor: The "Oh look! A movie star on TV!" snobs love Glenn Close like a supermodel loves Tic Tacs. That isn't to say that Close isn't doing fantastic work on "Damages," but you'd think the sun rises in the Glenn and sets in the Close to hear Emmy voters. It's doubtful that the third season of "Damages" will have done anything to tarnish that luster.
Working Against Her: Leaving aside the usual carping that Close is well and truly a supporting actress in "Damages," she's never had competition like she will this year, assuming several new faces crack the field. In addition, "Damages" enters Emmy season with less overall buzz and a fourth season looking doubtful. Close was a runaway favorite the first two years. This year? It'll be a race.
