Emmy Nomination Preview 2010 - Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy
A 'Glee' girl is ready to take on Toni Collette, Tina Fey and the rest of the field

Nomination Status: Defending champ remains a favorite.
In Her Favor: Toni Collette won the first Emmy and Golden Globe of her career for the first season of "United States of Tara." With the second season introducing a new alter and new complications to Tara's life, there's little reason to expect she won't enter this year's Emmy race as the favorite after pulling off a minor upset in unseating Tina Fey last season.
Working Against Her: As good as Collette is, "Tara" isn't a major hit for Showtime and even her Emmy doesn't mean that Collette is immune to being overshadowed by Edie Falco, Mary-Louise Parker and Laura Linney on her own network. None of that should prevent a nomination or anything.

I suppose you don't watch Old Christine but there is one particular episode where Julia did an excellent physical comedy that if she submitted then she would be a strong candidate for another win.
Toni is great on Tara but the character [and the show] isn't really funny so I hope somebody else wins.
My predictions:
Toni Colette [United States of Tara]
Tina Fey [30 Rock]
Edie Falco [Nurse Jackie]
Julia Louis-Dreyfus [The New Adventures of Old Christine]
Christina Applegate [Samantha Who?]
Lea Michelle [Glee]

And Patricia Heaton is also good in The Middle, her character is more likable here than Raymond so if she gets a nod, I would be happy to see since she is the only best shot for the underappreciated sitcom for a major Emmy nod

June 17, 2010 at 9:07AM EST Reply to CommentI don't think Lea Michele is bad...the writing treats her terribly though. But when she's funny (Run Joey Run, any of her diva rants, The Climb) she's laugh out loud hilarious (at least to me). I cannot believe Cox didn't get a nom for Friends--fat Monica was my favorite Friends skit!
My Personal (wishful) Ballot (in the order of how much they make me laugh since this is comedy category):
Kaley Cuoco
Lea Michele
Tina Fey
Toni Collete
Courtney Cox
Edie Falco (even though I think Nurse Jackie is more of a drama)

Regarding Lea Michele, JUST SAY NO.
Sincerely,

p.s. Ditto Heaton and Cox-Arquette. Bleh.

June 17, 2010 at 11:43AM EST Reply to CommentBillie Piper is playing a role that none of these other women could even handle and doing a fantastic job in a difficult role. This was "Secret Diaries of a Call Girl"'s best season yet and she so deserves a nomination. I would nominate Piper, Toni Collette, Edie Falco, Sarah Silverman, Mary Louise Parker, and Kaitlin Olsen who will never get a nomination but she is the lone female regular in the cast of "Its Always Sunny in Philadephia" and she is brilliantly gifted.
