Emmy Nomination Preview 2010 - Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy

Will any new faces rise to challenge Alec Baldwin? Can Jim Parsons claim the crown?

Nomination Status: Two-time winner is a lock for another nomination.

In His Favor: So far, it's hard to resent Alec Baldwin so far. He had been nominated the past three years. He probably deserved to win the first year and lost. He won the next two, though maybe you could argue Jim Parsons deserved it a bit more last year. Still, he hasn't reached that point of overstaying his welcome, since even when "30 Rock" struggles, as it did in the first half of this season, he's still pretty great. This year, though? It's harder to make the case that he deserves to win. He hasn't had the sort of standout episodes he had each of the past few years and that love triangle he was saddled with for most of the spring was iffy at best. For a nomination, though? He's still comfortably positioned as one of TV's six best comedic leading men.

Working Against Him: Only expectations and the negative comparisons between earlier "30 Rock" seasons and much of this season. Baldwin's gonna be just fine.

I think Charlie Sheen's bad press will be the factor if he won't be nominated. Remember Jeremy Piven's "mercury" scandal last year?

    My predictions

    Alec Baldwin [30 Rock]
Jim Parsons [The Big Bang Theory]
    Steve Carell [The Office]
    Tony Shaloub [Monk]
    Larry David [Curb Your Enthutiasm]
Joel McHale [Community] - I just think that being chosen to announce the winners gives him a good to be nominated himself

Eh, Morrison is the reason I loathe Glee. I think he's miscast.

tigger500 I also think Thomas Jane is miscast in Hung. I just don't buy him as that big of a loser.

I thought Monk already got its send off nomination? As long as we're nominating shows that have already ended can we nominate Jason Bateman for Arrested Development?

I was unaware that Glee was considered a comedy.

David Duchovny and Californication missed being nominated for two years, not three. At least not yet. I still have a little hope that he will get a nom this year. Third time's the charm and all that, you know?

I seriously do not understand how people see Jim Parsons to be funny. That idiot needs to be replaced by Adam Scott of Party Down.
