'The Good Wife'
"The Good Wife," CBS
Nomination Status: Probably the best shot of any first-year drama to crack this field.
In Its Favor: Admiration is high for what "The Good Wife" accomplished this year, emerging as one of the season's best reviewed and most watched new network shows. Star Julianna Margulies will probably be a favorite in the Lead Actress category and she'll make sure that "The Good Wife" has a place on the Emmy radar. Margulies' Golden Globe and SAG Awards wins, plus the show's SAG ensemble nomination probably put "The Good Wife" in good position.
Working Against It: "The Good Wife" may have a bigger audience of fans, but several other shows may have smaller, but more passionate fanbases. Maybe that's why "The Good Wife" didn't pick up a Best Drama Series nomination at the Golden Globes? This is a challenging category, because seven shows were nominated last season and all seven are back. That means "The Good Wife" (or any other new show in the field) would have to leapfrog multiple returning nominees to make the cut.
