"Breaking Bad," AMC
Nomination Status: AMC controls the top of this category.
In Its Favor: "Breaking Bad" made a huge qualitative leap between its first and second seasons and was rewarded with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. After, against all odds, finding a way to improve once again in its third season, "Breaking Bad" has the feeling of a show ready to make a big Emmy leap across-the-board. At this point, AMC has the two best written, best directed, best acted, best produced dramas on television. As long as both are nominated, we'll be happy to let the voters sort out which deserves to win.
Working Against It: While "Mad Men" was an Emmy juggernaut out of the box, "Breaking Bad" picked up four nominations its first year and only gained one last year (a big one, but still). The show is clicking with Emmy voters, but it's not *totally* clicking for some reason. It's a dark show and it takes some getting used to, but maybe this is the year "Breaking Bad" goes to 10 nominations.
