Cherry Jones of '24'
Cherry Jones, "24"
Nomination Status: If voters welcome "24" back, she's in
Bottom Line: In a different year, in a weaker category, Jones would be a no-doubt, slam-dunk for a nomination. She's a revered Tony-winning actress playing a woman of authority on a show that has regular earned nominations for its co-stars in similar roles. She had to undergo several emotional crises during the season and made several tough moral decisions. What works against Jones is the strength of the category and the question of how fully Emmy voters will welcome "24" back after a year away. The series went from Outstanding Drama in 2006 to unnominated in 2007 to not eligible last year. If "24" breaks back into the field in a big way (i.e. not just Kiefer Sutherland, Jon Voight and some technical nominations), Jones will probably get a nomination, likely claiming that second "In Treatment" nod.
