Emmy Nomination Preview 2009 - Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama
Can Diane Wiest repeat? Will Emmy voters welcome back Katherine Heigl?
Marcia Gay Harden of 'Damages'
Marcia Gay Harden, "Damages"
Nomination Status: Our somewhat arbitrary favorite
Bottom Line: Harden has an two Oscar nominations (and one win), a recent Tony victory, plus a previous Emmy nomination for her guest work on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." She's on a show that Emmy voters like and she had a part that had occasional moments of dramatic defiance. Pragmatically, Claire Maddox wasn't even a good enough character to get Harden a nomination. Realistically, Emmy voters love their respected movie actors dropping down. Her nomination is inevitable. We think her win is possible.

But in a category this deep, I'd personally put her somewhere in the 8-to-12 range and with actresses in that range, I was doing a little picking and choosing based on preferences and amusement. I mean, obviously she has a far better chance of being nominated than, say, Jessica Lowndes or Julie Benz. I know that... It was just picking an array of likelihoods. Oh and don't worry... Jeremy Davies is going to be on the list for his appropriate category... -Daniel
