Rosemarie DeWitt of 'The United States of Tara'
Rosemarie DeWitt, 'The United States of Tara'
Nomination Status: An intriguing newcomer
Bottom Line: There were people -- this writer included -- who thought that DeWitt was every bit as deserving of Oscar nomination as her more decorated "Rachel Getting Married" co-star Anne Hathaway, which is the sort of buzz that can't hurt with TV voters. It also can't hurt that DeWitt's Charmaine had several largely dramatic story arcs on a series that's being categorized (correctly) as a comedy. I'd start with Charmaine's post-breast augmentation scenes with Toni Collette's Buck and go for there. Or maybe her scenes with guest star Fred Ward? DeWitt is an actress-on-the-cusp and this would be well-deserved recognition, though her only real chance is if "The United States of Tara" proves generally strong with voters.
