Emmy Nomination Preview 2009 - Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy

Can Tina Fey lose? Probably not, but Toni Collette will try to beat her

Nomination Status: Emmy voters like her, but probably only a dark horse

Bottom Line: It was a pretty big deal last year when Poehler snagged her Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series nod for "Saturday Night Live." It showed a high level of appreciation for what Poehler could bring to a series. Poehler didn't necessarily bring the same quality to the erratic "Parks & Recreation." Like the show around her, Poehler's Leslie Knope was fitfully funny, but often seemed to be a different character every week. That doesn't mean she won't get better and that, with more time to let episodes develop, the show won't improve as well. But if she gets a nomination this year, it'll be based on her status, not this particular performance.
