Emmy Nomination Preview 2009 - Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama

With nominations coming on Thursday (July 16) morning, can Bryan Cranston hold off Jon Hamm and Hugh Laurie in Emmy's most competitive category?

Nomination Status: A lock for a nomination

Bottom Line: It was a bit of an upset when Jon Hamm didn't win this category last year. And it was a bit of an upset when he didn't repeat at the Golden Globes. And, actually, it was also a bit of an upset when he didn't win at the SAG Awards. In fact, since Hamm won the Golden Globe at the ceremony that wasn't a ceremony in 2008, he's been losing a lot of awards. That doesn't mean he won't get nominated here. Of course he will. It just means that maybe he isn't the favorite at all.

This is a really, really strong category. I honestly don't care who wins between Hugh Laurie, Jon Hamm, Bryan Cranston, and Michael C. Hall, because all four are quite deserving, in my opinion (though I'm pulling for Laurie). Sutherland would be a lock for me if 24's second half was as good as its first. If James Spader wins again, I'm going to punch my TV.

Not a single LOST nod? Bleh. Let's see if you saved them for the Best Supporting Actor category...
