Jim Parsons of 'Big Bang Theory'
Jim Parsons, "Big Bang Theory"
Nomination Status: Seemingly this year's designated Breakthrough Performer
Bottom Line: So many awards pundits have written articles about how underrated Jim Parsons is and what an Emmy dark horse he is that the "Big Bang Theory" star may be on the verge of becoming overrated and, possibly, this year's Emmy favorite. Certainly the "Big Bang Theory" writers caught on after reading reviews of the first season. While Parsons' Sheldon began the series as an obvious second banana to Johnny Galecki's Leonard, by midseason, every episode seemed to be a showcase for Sheldon's latest eccentricity. If Parsons were any less tremendous, we'd begrudge his newfound centrality, but he succeeds in making Sheldon more than just the sum of his neuroses. We're still not sure that he's ahead of Baldwin and Carell, but we agree that the Emmy voters will be making a big mistake if they fail to recognize Parsons.
