Zach Braff of 'Scrubs'
Zach Braff, "Scrubs"
Nomination Status: Could the prodigal son return?
Bottom Line: Back in 2005, Zach Braff received his lone "Scrubs" Emmy nomination. Was he spectacularly good that season? Better than he'd been in the show's previous seasons? No, silly. Braff was just riding his wave of hype from "Garden State" and Emmy voters mostly just wanted to cozy up to the movie star. That's how they roll. Well, four years later, Braff has lost that luster, but he has something different going for him: The season finale of "Scrubs," which played like a series finale but wasn't, played as an hour-long celebration of John Dorian and therefore of Zach Braff. There was comedy. There were tears. And, over the course of 60 minutes, it was the best showcase Braff has had for some time. Braff is a worthy candidate for the sixth nomination slot, but it would really be out-of-character for Emmy voters to notice. Now if "Scrubs" had actually gone off the air for good in May? Perhaps sentiment would have prevailed.
