Winner: Conan O'Brien
Go ahead, trendwatchers. Write your "Emmy voters stick it to Jay Leno" stories, but Emmy voters have always preferred Conan O'Brien to Jay Leno, so this morning was just a reaffirmation of Emmy precedent, rather than some grand statement on anybody's part. Seriously, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" hadn't received any sort of nomination of any kind since 2005, so anybody who refers to Emmy voters as snubbing Jay Leno *this* year to make a point isn't really saying anything. Still, we're sure Conan O'Brien and company are pleased with their nomination for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series. Now if "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" wins the Emmy, that'll be making a bit of a statement, though we still suspect that "The Daily Show" will take home the prize.
