Emmy Nomination 2010 Winners & Losers

Why Conan O'Brien, Betty White and 'Lost' are hot, but 'Married with Children,' 'Community' and The CW are not

Winner: Conan O'Brien

Winner: Conan O'Brien

Go ahead, trendwatchers. Write your "Emmy voters stick it to Jay Leno" stories, but Emmy voters have always preferred Conan O'Brien to Jay Leno, so this morning was just a reaffirmation of Emmy precedent, rather than some grand statement on anybody's part. Seriously, "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" hadn't received any sort of nomination of any kind since 2005, so anybody who refers to Emmy voters as snubbing Jay Leno *this* year to make a point isn't really saying anything. Still, we're sure Conan O'Brien and company are pleased with their nomination for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series. Now if "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" wins the Emmy, that'll be making a bit of a statement, though we still suspect that "The Daily Show" will take home the prize.

    OK, I'm confused.

What is the date window in which a TV show is eligible to be nominated???

Some of these shows aired as far back as July or August of 2009 while others just wrapped up in June.

Is it something like July 1 of the previous year to June 30 of the current? Or is it some arbitrary "official full season airing" thing?

    Anyone know?

dan Robert - Give or take a bit, it's the end of May to the end of May. So "Nurse Jackie," which premiered last summer, actually managed to have two whole seasons during the eligibility period, which doesn't happen all that often... -Daniel

I wouldn't have nominated "The Pacific" for shit. That was one of the biggest disappointments in recent TV history. Totally underwhelming in every way possible.

Thought Katey Sagal was a lock. The Sons deserved much better...

I feel like the Emmy voters snubbed Ed O'Neil just because they were upset with him for not submitting for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy series. Which I'm guessing he'll do next year.

Poor CW, not even those technical nods Smallville usually get.

I was also surprised with Sharon Gless' nomination that came out of nowhere

Too bad Survivor was snubbed for Outstanding Reality Competition program

I wonder if Kurt Sutter gets no love because of his regular industry bashing on his blog.

dan Rich- The Emmy voters have no clue who Kurt Sutter is, his blog or his show. That's their loss, of course, on both counts.

'Community' is not as good as you TV writers think it is.

dan the truth hurts - Granted that I defended my Winners & Losers a bit better, sometimes there's no arguing with the truth, I guess?

'Community' is way funnier than 30Rock and Parks and Recreation combined! Glad to see the 'Taylors' from Friday Night Lights finally get proper recognition, as should have Zach Gilford for 'the son'. The best supporting actress in a comedy series' will be tough, but I think Julie Bowen should get it! I definately believe that the CW should have gotten a nod for Life Unexpected w/ Britt Robertson.
Just a few of my cents.
