Loser: Neil Patrick Harris, Emmy Nominee
Like nearly every critic, reporter and pundit, I looked at the Jeremy Piven-less field for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and assumed that this was Neil Patrick Harris' year, that he'd host for a bit, win his Emmy and do a little happy dance through the rest of the show. Instead, Jon Cryer played the Captain Hammer to Harris' Dr. Horrible and stole the Emmy from his grasp. Of course, Harris found a way to jest about his loss, even getting a funny reaction from Cryer in the press room. Want to know the best part, though, about how Harris handled losing: He made it into a joke for five minutes and then never mentioned it again. He's smart enough to know that the more he talked about it, the more bitter it would look and the more it would take away from Cryer's night. Harris played his loss perfectly.
