From Paul Newman to Michael Jackson to Bea Arthur to Karl Malden to Patrick Swayze to Farrah Fawcett (and many, many, many more), this year's Emmy Necrology had to have been the most star-studded ever, saving Walter Cronkite for the climax. The montage was accompanied by Sarah McLachlan's live performance of "I Will Remember You," but unlike the Oscar necrology with Queen Latifah in the spring, the camera didn't linger on the singer, concentrating on the true icons who passed away in the last year. As a result, the montage achieved the necessary gravity (other than the competition to see who would receive the most applause).
