With a remake of 'Point Break' already existing and a remake of 'The Crow' in the works, we ask Tinseltown to lay off these '90s gems
'Fight Club' (1999)
The second Pitt/Fincher pairing on the list, "Fight Club" is an example of a film that was considered a commercial disappointment on release but which now possesses a reputation and cultural impact far exceeding its initial theatrical reception. Looked at that way, I can actually see Fox attempting to remake it (though not until at least the end of this current decade) with a couple of hot, "of the moment" young stars in order to capitalize on the title's hugely iconic pop-cultural stature. And yet no other filmmaker could hope to match the visceral, zeitgeist-capture intensity and visionary scope of the original, meaning that artistically, at least, a remake really doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
